In 1903, the Telescope Cot Bed & Novelty Company in New York City was manufacturing cots and campstools with “telescoping” legs that were popular among the military. For over 100 years Telescope has remained a remarkably successful and self-sufficient family owned business currently managed by the fourth and fifth generation, and headed by Kathy Juckett.
The sawmills remained in Pennsylvania until 1921 when Telescope moved to the lush countryside of Granville, New York. Granville and the surrounding areas not only offered acres of woodlands, but hard working laborers and railroads that allowed the trains to run through the new plant. After the sales and administration moved from New York City in 1932, the entire operation was located in Granville.
Telescope had been making director chairs for years, but in 1953 Telescope invented and patented the award winning Director Chair with replaceable seat covers. A long-time Hollywood staple, that today remains as popular as ever.
Since then Telescope has dominated the director chair supply for the movie industry, a market that only accepts the highest quality products.
